About Filling in the Blanks:
Filling in the Blanks fights childhood hunger by providing children in need with meals on the weekend.
Mothers and community activists Shawnee Knight and Tina Kramer founded Filling in the Blanks in 2013 when they learned that over 34,000 children in Fairfield County alone were experiencing food insecurity.
They observed that children receiving free or reduced meals at school faced a looming meal gap every weekend. Marrying their loves of community, children, food, and philanthropy, they designed a weekend meal bag program to “Fill in the Blank.”
What started with 50 students in one school now serves 10,000 and counting at over 200 sites throughout Fairfield, Westchester, and Putnam counties, in-school pantries and a mobile pantry providing fresh food and connection to needed services.
Filling in the Blanks has delivered over FOUR MILLION meals to local families and continues to find new ways to serve the community.

Giving Back, Together Benefitting Homes with Hope
Giving Back, Together: A Community Volunteer Event
Saturday, September 26 | 8:00–11:00 AM
Join us for a morning that matters.
Willo, FLB Law, and the Westport Downtown Association are co-hosting Giving Back, Together to benefit Homes with Hope, a Westport-based nonprofit working to prevent and end housing and food insecurity across Fairfield County — and we need your help!
Come work side-by-side with fellow families and neighbors across three hands-on filling stations: household items, snack bags, and personal hygiene bags — each one packed with essentials for someone who needs them. Want to add a personal touch? Stop by our kindness card station and write a note of encouragement.
Here's how it works: your monetary donation covers the cost of everything that goes in the bags. $25 fills two bags. Bring the whole crew — there's no limit on how many you can fill. A family of four filling two bags each? That's $100 and eight bags of hope, made together. Please note that you do not need to bring any items.
Can't make it in person? Donate anyway — our volunteers will happily fill your bags for you.
Register today and be part of something meaningful.
100% of donations go directly to Homes with Hope.
